An ultrasound scan performed in the 3rd trimester, in those cases in which a foetal malformation that was not visible or not detected in the week 20 morphology scan is suspected (for example a finding of polyhydramnios or severe foetal arrhythmias) or in the presence of late risk factors (for example infections in the 3rd trimester, idiopathic growth delay).
A foetal morphological scan in the 3rd trimester should always be combined with a conventional biometric ultrasound, but can also be performed in addition to the latter if the suspected situation arises or becomes evident later.
