Andrology and urology
These services deal with the diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of male health problems concerning sexual and reproductive functions. The main conditions treated include: infertility, azoospermia, variocele, erectile dysfunction, loss of sex drive, premature ejaculation, penile curvature, hydrocele, phimosis and short frenulum.
Laboratory tests
These treatments (testicular needle biopsy, MESA, TESE, MicroTESE) are used for the surgical retrieval of sperm from the testicle and they are performed in cases of male infertility with a complete absence of spermatozoa in the seminal fluid (azoospermia).
It is useful to make a distinction between two types of azoospermia: obstructive and non-obstructive or “secretory” azoospermia.
In obstructive azoospermia, the testicles produce spermatozoa but there is a blockage along the seminal tract; in non-obstructive azoospermia, on the other hand, the testicle does not produce enough sperm.
