Oocyte donation
What is it?
Oocyte donation is a medically-assisted procreation treatment involving the insemination of an oocyte from a donor and embryo transfer into the uterus of the female partner of the recipient couple.
The seminal fluid used for insemination can come from the male partner of the recipient couple or from a donor depending on indications.
Oocyte donation, which was outlawed by Law 40/2004, was made legal again by Constitutional Court sentence 162/2014.
Useful information
This technique is recommended to female patients who for physiological reasons (early menopause, chemo and radiotherapy, etc.) are unable to produce oocytes, and to patients with genetic or infectious diseases or patients in reproductive old age.
