Before starting a treatment cycle

A series of preliminary tests must be performed, as established by the doctor during the couple’s initial consultation, and the couple must be provided with full information about the treatment. In some cases, the couple is advised to have in-depth lab tests in order to allow the specialist to study the chromosomal composition of both the sperm and the oocytes in detail.

The tests performed before the treatment cycle are at the discretion of the Specialist and will only be performed during the initial consultation phase, depending on the specific problem of each couple.

The treatment cycle involves:

  • a series of preliminary tests and procedures that, in accordance with Ministry of Health regulations (circular no. 17 of 10/11/1992) and according to the clinical protocols applied by SISMeR, the couple must undergo before being able to have treatment.
  • ovarian stimulation with ovulation induction agents, for which the medicines and doses used vary from one patient to another.

As oocyte collection has to be performed under anaesthesia, female patients need to have a number of pre-anaesthesia tests and procedures that are valid for 2 months (blood sodium, potassium and glucose levels, complete blood count, GOT, GPT, Prothrombin Time and PTT Test).

What is it?

It is the first contact between the couple and S.I.S.Me.R.

During the consultation, the clinician identifies the most suitable treatment. Based on the specific needs and characteristics of each couple, a personalized treatment plan including all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures is defined.

Useful information

During the consultation, the clinician illustrates all procedures, as well as their timing and costs.

With reference to timing and costs, they might be subject to variations depending on each couple’s personalized treatment plan. Diagnostic medical tests can be carried out also at S.I.S.Me.R.’s satellite centers without having to undertake expensive logistical costs, whilst benefitting from the guaranteed quality and safety of S.I.S.Me.R. services.
